It’s Time to Refi Your Life

Posted by MichaelZ  Published in Money and Credit

There are many ways that we can all reduce our monthly expenses. Now that many Starbucks’ are closing that may be an easy expense to cut. All kidding aside, reducing expenses will allow your family to get through these tough times. This is a great time to sit down at the kitchen table and go through your monthly expenses. Analyze exactly where your money goes each month. This is not about cutting all expenses of course, refinancing your life is about making sacrifices.

How do you go about refinancing your life?  It is quite simple. There are new finances always accruing. Many of us never pause to look at all of the expenses that have been adding up. Now is a great time to do so. You don’t have to sacrifice everything. Some expenses cannot be avoided or reduced. Take a deep breath, you can cut out many of your expenses and you may need to change your lifestyle a bit.

There is no need to start with your major expenses. Do you really need the newspaper delivered everyday? How about eating out a few less times each week? You can use this as a great opportunity. You may be able to change your eating habits towards a healthier lifestyle, while also reducing grocery costs. You can try buying some generic brands for many kitchen and household items. Do you use your gym membership? You can find alternative ways to exercise without using a gym membership. Just put some thought into your own lifestyle and your own expenses. You will find that if you are willing to make some simple sacrifices you can dramatically reduce your monthly expenses.

It will be a bit more time consuming to handle your larger expenses. Spend one day a week working with your major expenses. You can look into your insurance situation and see if you can drop your rates. Consider reducing or changing your coverage.

Your largest expense is most likely your payment on your mortgage. You can use a home refi as a tool for your finances. You can find a loan program that fits your current lifestyle a bit better or even simply refi to lower your payment. Payoff credit cards with your mortgage. If your auto loans are at a high rate you can roll them into your mortgage. This may even allow you to make the same payments that you’re making right now, and go from a 30 year fixed mortgage into a 15 year fixed mortgage. You can possibly obtain a no closing cost refinance.

This will be much easier than you may initially think. It is just a matter of getting started and often starting small will help. Stay focused, we often dig ourselves into a hole without even realizing it. The feeling that you will have when you’re finished with your life refi should be enough for motivation. What are you waiting for?
